Waitaki Valley Community Society Inc

- focused on the future with an eye to the past

VISION:

The Waitaki Valley Community Society (based in Kurow) encompasses the Waitaki Valley and the Hakataramea Valley and provides an effective, vibrant hub for community residents, community groups and the general public; offering support, information and awareness of the benefits, facilities and opportunities in the Waitaki Valley and surrounding areas


LONG TERM AIMS:

  • Strengthen social cohesion (build, encourage, and support community networks)

  • Support and assist community groups and agencies to enhance community wellbeing and productive enterprise

  • Provide assistance and advice in obtaining funding for community groups

  • Encourage and support educational opportunities in the community

  • Support the long term development of the museum

  • Enhance the community environment

  • Provide information about the Waitaki Valley

  • Liaise with businesses in the Waitaki Valley to enhance community wellbeing

  • Kurow Island - Contact Sandy Cameron

 Community projects WVCS has bee/is involved with:

  • Playground and Skatepark

  • Renovation of the West Wing (Meeting rooms)

  • Upgrade of Boat ramp at Kurow Island


DURING THE PAST FINANCIAL YEAR WAITAKI VALLEY COMMUNITY SOCIETY HAS BEEN GENEROUSLY SUPPORTED BY THE FOLLOWING GROUPS:

  • Community Organisation Grant Scheme

  • Internal Affairs

  • Meridian Energy

  • Ahuriri Community Board - Waitaki District Council

  • Trust Aoraki

  • Lottery Grants Board: Lottery Community

The greater Waitaki Valley community and visitors benefit from the support from these groups. The Waitaki Valley continues to benefit from funds from Department of Conservation which supports the Kurow Island Project and the Kurow Trails group.
