A DESTINATION

Kurow is a South Island pioneer township situated in North Otago, nestled comfortably between the great Waitaki River and the magnificent St Mary's mountain range in the Waitaki Valley.

It is the geographic hub between Christchurch, Dunedin, Queenstown and Oamaru and is a vital stop on the exciting new Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.

The Waitaki Valley encompasses the impressive braided Waitaki River, Lake Waitaki, Lake Aviemore and Lake Benmore, and a number of peaceful and friendly villages along the way. Visit Duntroon,
Otematata and Omarama on your trip to or from Kurow.

See & Do

The area is a ‘sportsman’s’ paradise with fabulous lakes on the Waitaki River for boating and fishing. Hiking, biking, horse trekking and skiing - come and enjoy our backyard!

Kurow is the service township for the upper Waitaki Valley.

The name may come from the Maori Place name Te Kohurau meaning “place of many mists”.

Hike it or Bike it, Taste it and Drink it!

The Waitaki Valley is a great place to explore, offering historic sites, Maori rock drawings, vineyards, wine tasting, orchards,
geological formations, and jet boating on the Waitaki River.

The hydro lakes are the perfect setting for water sports, camping and fishing. The Lakes are a popular ride for cyclists.
